The next Pedersen meetings are:

May 23th - 25th 2008 in Bad Zwischenahn (near Oldenburg)

General
In the meantime we are in our 4th year of Model-T, and we
can say that our „risky concept“ works, at least for rather
small manufactorers. We have sold 600 Pedersen
Model-Ts and many more are waiting to be sold.

We trust our customers, and sofar, apart from some minor
cases, we were not dissappointed. But also our customers
have a lot of trust inasmuch as they have ordered their
bicycle over the Internet.

Frames
The Model-T has seen a lot of changes during the years.
With every new frame shipment there are a few improve-
ments. Sofar the Pedersen has more been a bike for tall
people. But in mid 2007 we have changed that in dropping
one frame size (M) and adding two new sizes with 20“ and
with 24“ wheels - now we have 7 sizes. The smaller frames
were developed for smaller riders who are at least 145 cm
tall. Now these people can also enjoy the comfortabe
hammock saddle.

My partner, Jesper Sölling, noticed at the last SPEZI-Show
in Germersheim that the riders rode well and comfortably -
until it came to getting off the bike. Suddenly their legs were
not long enough. Our problem was the height of the bottom
bracket. It was simpy too high - and in order to make things
worse, I insisted on my favorite tyre, the Big Apple balloon
tyre. Now, even with the Big Apple tyre, the bottom bracket
is 270 mm above the ground on all 28“ wheels. The smaller
wheels have also a lower bottom bracket height of 260 mm.

Another change is the fact that from mid 2007 the right
rear drop out will get a threading for mounting a rear
derailleur, which will, in most cases, not be used. But we
have it, in case we need it. And we already need it for
our 24-gear version. In the derailleur cases the shifting
wire is encloed in the outer cable from the shifting lever
to the rear derailleur.

Colour
A new development is the fact that from now on you can
have the Model-T in any RAL-colour you like - for a
modest surcharge of € 100.- (the powder-coating will be
done in Germany). Since our delivery time usually is a
few weeks, you do not waste any time in ordering
another colour. However, you cannot give a coloured
Model-T back as easy as a black frame.

Pedals
There were quite a few instances, when customers
complained about „noise in the bottom bracket“.
However, apart from one exception, the cause of the
noise have always been the pedals. This prompted us
to decide to put a light, high quality pedal on the
Model-T. It is called 191 and it has industrial bearings -
and it is more than double as expensive as the old pedal.

Rust protection
From mid-2007 onwards all new frames will be phospha-
tized underneath the powder-coating. This gives extra
rust protection (and costs us € 10 extra).

Handlebars
Our nickel-plated Royal handlebars with brazed-on
stem was mounted on a Pedersen „Royal“ (hence the
name) from 1909. We think that we have made about
every mistake that you can possibly make ! That‘s why
Jesper‘s motto is: „The devil is in the detail !“

First the handlebars came from Denmark, but they
became too expensive there. Plus we had a lot of
reclamations. Then we had them produced by the
German company Humpert. But we still had reclama-
tions. Now Humpert delivered new handlebars, which
are much stronger - but don‘t look quite as elegant as
the older version. However, safety first ! The new
handlebars come with 3 differently long stems (vertically).

In case you have any reason to complain about your
Royal handlebar, we will send you a new one free of
charge. Our Royal handlebars are so expensive,
because they have to be produced individually; plus the
nickel-plating process demands a lot of hand work.

We offer now a new Royal „M“ handlebar with seperate
stem which fits to the smaler frames. This handlebar
has got the „look“ of the Royal handlebar but it is
smaller so your knees don´t get in contact with it.

No matter which frame size you choose, the price of a
Model-T will always be the same.

Seat tubes - free flowing or brazed ?
A few years ago I met Peter Dixon, the Dursley
Pedersen specialist in the British Veteran Cycle Club
(VCC). He told me that he is observing us with pride
since a couple of years, since we are selling Pedersens
in larger numbers in Denmark and Germany.
However, he told us, we are making one mistake !
The seat tubes must  be free-flowing from the bottom
bracket till the saddle, and MUST NOT BE FIXED to the
bridge of the diagonal frame tubes. I interviewed a
couple of engineers and after considerable deliberation
they all agreed. Only when a rear rim-brake is mounted
(or cantilever sockets are brazed on), we need extra
stability in this area. And only in these cases we braze
the seat tubes to the bridge. Mikael Pedersen used a
rear rimbrake, but he used the much stronger lower
tubes of the frame (close to the bottom bracket).
The Model-T has no rear rim brake (either a coaster-
or rollercam-brake is assembled in the rear).
Therefor the seat tubes are free-flowing.

Gearshift
We are extremely satisfied with the shifting- and riding-
comfort of the Shimano Nexus „Premium“
8-speed hubshift. It has become the most choosen
gearshift used in our Modell-T. Till now we haven´t had
even one complaint.

We could not reach a 100% good results with the
Shimano Intego 3x8 shifting, we don´t offer it any more.
Customers riding in hilly terrain are recommended to
tke the 8-speed „Premium“ with a clear gear ratio
(38/21 teeth).
